This is another page where I'm pretty happy with how it turned out and it's really close to the original thumbnail. Originally when I wrote the script, the last 10 pages were much different... but I'll talk about that more in next week's blog. Had a nice happy accident with the dirty quality on the coat, I like how the field turned out but I'm not so sure about the line quality recently, I followed this book's coloring method and I maybe need to rethink it. Anyone have any recommendations? Leave me a comment!

This week I want to talk about hamsters. Lots of people ask me "Why a Hamster?"  The question of "Why a Hamster?" is sometimes asked because unfortunately there some really awful anti-homosexual urband legend propaganda from the 1980's that lingers into the year 2012. If you're reading this and you've now read that Snopes article do me a favor and correct people when they refer to that nonsense.

So "Why a Hamster?" my answer is I had hamsters from the age of 8 until the age of 28. I know, I know... a grown man owning a pet hamster into his 20's is a bit strange but I liked having a pet and hamsters were affordable. I couldn't really afford a dog or a cat until 28 and the first hamsters my sister and I had as kids were the result of our family dog running away. So my mom bought my sister Mindi and I two pet hamsters. One of which was pregnant and  like Tribbles they began to multiply and we found ourselves with 4 cages (two of which were double deckered) and something like 8 hamsters they were our pets for years. Every 2-4 years one would die, we'd cry and then buy a new one.

So naturally I was drawing my pets and making small cartoon characters out of them. When it came time to create Roosevelt I took the cartoon little guy hamster character and merged him with Tigron my huge tiger character and then I stripped away the internal toughness from the character. As you'll discover Roosevelt is durable on the outside, but inside he's a mess. I find that way more fascinating then just having another "badass" character. So hopefully that answers the "Why a Hamster?" question.
